In the past several years, Red Bird Center’s founders, Dr. Marjorie Kosoy and Sheryl Levin, have educated many different groups of professionals about the grieving process.

They were presenters at the national meeting for the Association of Death Education and Counseling, which met in Dallas, Texas.

Marjorie A. Kosoy, Ed. D., Psychologist

Marjorie A. Kosoy, Ed. D. is a licensed psychologist active in the Houston Community. She received her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Pennsylvania and her Doctorate from the University of Houston. She completed her internship at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Houston, Texas. Dr. Kosoy is a licensed psychologist as well as a licensed school psychologist.

In her private practice, Dr. Kosoy specializes in working with both children and adults. She has also been an ongoing consultant to several private schools in the Houston area. In recent years, her passion and expertise is bereavement counseling which led to the creation of Red Bird Center.

Sheryl Levin, M.Ed., LPC

Sheryl Levin, M. Ed. is a practicing Licensed Professional Counselor. She was born in South Africa and received her undergraduate degree in Early Childhood Development and Education from Barkly House College of Education in Cape Town, South Africa. After moving to the United States, she received her Master of Science in Education from Houston Baptist University. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Texas.

Ms. Levin has a background in early childhood education and taught pre-school for many years. Her background has helped her to develop a deep understanding of the social and emotional needs of children and adults. She also developed a keen interest in bereavement counseling and is a co-founder of Red Bird Center.

Both Dr. Kosoy and Sheryl Levin have received certification in a bereavement facilitator training program conducted by the American Academy of Bereavement.
